It dates from 1948, and the Richmond Chair was established in 1965. The Department is housed on University Gardens in a terrace designed by JJ Burnet. It has nine full time members of staff and one Research Fellow: their names are listed under 'Research interests' opposite. In addition, there is a Departmental Librarian, Ms Marion Lawson, in charge of a Departmental Library which includes a collection of over 75,000 slides, and a Departmental Secretary, Ms Elaine Wilson.
