The department offers programs in five primary areas: Greek and Roman, Medieval, Islamic, Renaissance and Baroque and Modern Art.
The department is the largest of its kind in Israel, and excels in providing instruction to departments in other faculties within the university. The department of Art History focuses on teaching the history of architecture, painting and sculpture as a central expression of Western and Islamic cultures. Study revolves mainly around the axis of historical development of artistic currents, the meaning of artistic creation, the history of artistic styles and the status of the artist and his work in different historical periods.
The Department of Art History of Tel-Aviv University is located in rooms 111 and 112 of the Mexico Building at the Tel-Aviv University campus, and is part of the Yolanda and David Katz Faculty of the Arts.
